Keynote Practical implementation of the CIP framework

Founding Member CIP Institute, SD Group (Spain) This presentation shows the practical approach to the complex interactive processes and the applicability of the CIP framework to those less predictable environments dealing with complexity such as risks, hazards, or crises.

Both keynotes on the CIP framework offer an introduction to a common understanding of what CIP’s are. It forms the basis for further discussion in the various workshops. |

Keynote Complexity in Practice: re-imagining Disaster Incubation Theory Dr. Mike Lauder MBE
Alto42 (UK) This presentation will describe current research that is examining how rather reactive theories concerning crises might be used to stimulate foresight. Three cases will be used to illustrate this practical use of the re-imagined theory.

Keynote Stakeholder’s involvement through scientific reasoning: communicating risks without risk communication Prof. Dr. José Manuel Palma-Oliveira
University of Lisbon (Portugal) In the past, traditional approach to risk communication has failed in many cases resulting in significant stakeholder unease and stress. This talk will focus on alternative approaches of bringing stakeholders on board in projects where risk is a significant driver for decisions.

Aimed at both scientists and practitioners, the conference will provide an open and engaged dialogue tackling various issues and underlying mechanisms of complex interactive processes such as: development, further research, domain definition, theoretical underpinning, practical application, and the like. Building a solid foundation for dealing with crises, the programme is composed of keynotes and workshops.

After the Conference part, our first Annual Meeting will be held at the same location in Brussels. Everyone is invited to participate and think about the next steps of the CIP Institute. If you want to participate in the further development of the CIP Institute, you are most welcome to join us at the Annual Meeting as well.

The CIP Institute is a non-profit organization that brings together scientists and practitioners from various disciplines in an inspiring and innovative platform to exchange and develop knowledge about the Complex and Interactive Processes (CIP) in the field of crisis. It was founded in 2013 and currently groups around 70 members from eleven countries worldwide.
All founding members are working in fields related to risk/crisis communication and/or management. CIP Institute successfully fulfils its aim to bring together members from various backgrounds, including academics, researchers, practitioners and consultants.
Everyone who wants to spend time and energy in co-creating the next steps of the CIP Institute is welcome to participate in the first Annual Meeting, which will be held the day after the Conference at the same location in Brussels. A condition for participating in the Annual Meeting is that you will be required to join the CIP Institute.
Our members are related to various aspects of crisis, be it preventive, corrective, or in terms of recovery.
