Organisational crises often generate “lessons to be learnt”. Unfortunately, this does not always occur. By examining the typical event sequence of crises it is possible to generate a framework for change identifying key success factors at each stage. Reasons for failure to change will also be discussed.

Dr. Colin Pilbeam is a Principal Research Fellow at Cranfield University School of Management (UK). He holds doctorates in both Natural and Social Sciences, respectively from the University of Reading and the University of Bath. He has published a large number of articles and book chapters on risk and crisis management. His primary research interests lie in organizational design and the importance of organizational and individual networks. Taking a ‘network’ perspective, he is currently investigating safety leadership in service organizations sponsored by the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (UK). Recently he co-edited with David Denyer the book “Managing Change in Extreme Contexts” (Routledge, 2015).

Bart Brandsma is a social and political philosopher, trainer and consultant. As a consultant Bart trains professionals from all over the world. Key in his work are dialogue, conflict and polarisation.
He worked in the media as journalist and as a documentary maker a/o for Amnesty international. He was nominated for the the Socrates reward for his book De hel dat is de ander on the difference in thinking from Muslims and non Muslims. His book Polarisation: Understanding the dynamics of us versus them was launched in November 2016 (the translation in English in 2017) and is a basis for professionals that have to deal with polarisation and want to develop adequate polarisation strategies.
What are the dynamics of polarisation? Can we gain insight into the operation and fixed patterns related to black-and-white thinking? What roles do we play? And what opportunities do we have to intervene?
The book teaches how our portrayal of Man plays tricks on us, what our opportunities are to create a strategy of depolarisation, and how this phenomenon of polarisation relates to its ‘little brother’ conflict. As a Security Operations Center (SOC) operator for a global client base, he offers insights into the challenges faced in scaling incident response.

Over the last 20 years, Chris Ensey has established himself as a cybersecurity expert and strategic executive. In 2012, he joined Dunbar Armored to launch their cybersecurity services practice. As Chief Operating Officer, he led a team of security professionals delivering industry leading capabilities to detect and remediate cyber-attacks across the globe. Prior to Dunbar, he served as Director of Government Solutions at SafeNet, where he was responsible for business development and marketing for their extensive suite of encryption and authentication products. At IBM, Mr. Ensey served as Principal Security Strategist for their federal division. He architected cybersecurity solutions for large scale enterprise environments leveraging IBM's extensive technology and services portfolio. Ensey has also held technical roles at SAIC and BEA Systems. He serves as an advisor to numerous cybersecurity and blockchain companies and has a BS in Computer Engineering from Virginia Tech. He has been actively using crypto based currencies since the earliest days of bitcoin. His most recent blockchain work has centered on applying distributed ledger technologies to solve complex information security and privacy challenges.
